Meet Dr. Kelly Sonnenfeld
How Can I Help You Create a Life that Feels Intentional and Purpose-Driven?
Irvin Yalom described the relationship between client and therapist as "fellow travelers." We are all in this together and there is no therapist and no person immune to the inevitable aspects of being human (namely, pain and change). I feel honored to have worked alongside "fellow travelers" in private practice since 2016 and to have known deep in my bones that I wanted to be a psychologist since I first volunteered for a crisis hotline in 2006. My calling in this life is to help others start to like, respect, and yes, even love the person staring back at them in the mirror. Your struggles, hardships, and trauma are valid and so are your strengths and resilience.
A Little More About Me
My Work
My current clinical practice includes providing comprehensive DBT (individual therapy, skills group, phone coaching, and consultation team) to adolescents and adults as well as treating symptoms of PTSD with DBT-PE. My interest in DBT began as a passion to find an effective treatment for the ongoing epidemic of suicide in America and I have often wished that DBT skills could be taught in kindergarten! More recently, I have received training and integrated ketamine assisted psychotherapy (KAP) into to my practice to better support individuals experiencing treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
My Roots
I was born and raised outside of Chicago before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma in adolescence. I hold significant privilege (white, educated within a well-funded school system, able-bodied, cis-hetero, citizen, financially stable) and am dedicated to social justice, actively engaging in anti-racism, and an advocate for collective liberation.
My Joys
Relationships are my best teacher and I learn daily from my supportive and loving partner, deep friendships with women, and my two young daughters. I am very fortunate to have convinced my immediate family to move to northern Colorado (although it pretty much sells itself) and we are all foodies who enjoy being together. I am a proud Swiftie, 4-lbs of spunk Yorkie mom, podcast and book nerd, and yoga student.
